When families are supported, dreams become achievable

AVANCE-Houston Celebrates Inspiring Dreams Luncheon

On April 23, the AVANCE-Houston community gathered at the Omni Hotel for the Inspiring Dreams Luncheon—an afternoon grounded in the belief that when families are supported, dreams become achievable.

The event celebrated the organization’s impact, bringing together supporters, partners, and alumni whose lives have been shaped by its programs. Through the generosity of attendees and sponsors, the luncheon raised an impressive $164,000 to advance AVANCE-Houston’s mission of strengthening families through education, parenting support, and early childhood development.

A powerful highlight was the premiere of an impact video featuring AVANCE alumni sharing their personal stories. The video brought these journeys to life in a deeply moving way, illustrating how early support and education can shape long-term success across generations.

One of the most memorable moments was the runway presentation, where adult alumni walked alongside younger alumni—now in elementary, middle, and high school. This presentation served as a living illustration of the organization’s long-term impact, showing a continuum from early learning to adolescence, adulthood, leadership, and community contribution.

The luncheon also honored outstanding community partners and leaders. The Honorable Christina Morales, Texas House of Representatives, District 145, received the Community Leader Award in recognition of her public service and continued impact through the Morales Memorial Foundation. H-E-B received the Chairman’s Award for its longstanding partnership and investment in AVANCE-Houston families.

The event was emceed by KHOU 11 reporter Anayeli Ruiz, who guided the program and brought the stories of impact to life. Co-chairs Sara Montelongo-Oyervidez of Valero and Cathryn Martinez of Calpine Corporation also played key roles in the luncheon’s success.

Together, the Inspiring Dreams Luncheon reflected what is possible when community partners, educators, and families unite around a shared vision: creating opportunity, breaking cycles of poverty, and helping the next generation thrive.
