We celebrate children, families, and teachers for the Week of the Young Child

The Week of the Young Child (WOYC) is a weeklong celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) that highlights the needs of children and families and the importance of early childhood education providers.

With this year’s theme: “Celebrating our Youngest Learners,” our leadership team joined the festivities and visited the centers to celebrate.

NAEYC and all early childhood providers intend to continue bringing awareness that the earlier we start with the holistic development of children, the better it is because the interests they develop during this time stay with them throughout their lives.

“The early childhood years, from birth to age five, lay the foundation for a child’s later success in their academic and social life. Therefore, the thoughtful investment in a child’s education during these years can go a long way,” said AVANCE’s Executive Director, Luz Flores.

The fun-filled week had special activities to nurture the children and acknowledge all the people who touch their lives, from their parents (and extended families) to their teachers and the community they are a part of.

We kicked off our agency-wide celebration with Music Monday, which included musical parades and visitors that sang and played the guitar for them; the children danced until tired and created musical instruments.

During Tasty Tuesday, children learned about how food is cooked worldwide while preparing fun, healthy snacks.
On Work Together Wednesday, children planted a garden, painted a mural, and learned about the different professions where they must work in teams.

Last but not least, on Artsy Thursday, children and their families were encouraged to create cardboard art and games, and all centers showcased children’s original artwork. All activities were intended for all children to explore through movement and play in a collaborative spirit.
