We believe all children and families have an opportunity for success

Dear AVANCE-Houston families,

I’m Kristie L. Mireles, and it is a privilege and honor to serve you as the Sr. Director II of Early Head Start-Head Start for the 2023-2024 school year. Welcome all new and returning children and families to AVANCE-Houston, Inc.We are excited to partner with you as your child begins their educational journey to success and becomes school ready!

At AVANCE-Houston,we believe all children and families have an opportunity for success, and parents are their child’s first and most important teachers. Therefore, YOUR involvement is critical, and we ask for your partnership to help your child become school ready! We value your input as a parent and encourage you to participate by doing the following:

► Bringing your child to school on time each day.

► Volunteering at your child’s center.

► Attending monthly parent meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and home visits.

► Joining in activities such as the fatherhood initiative and Parent Child Education Program (PCEP),weekly family learning, and

► Running in the center’s election to serve on the Policy Council. Your involvement in these activities creates pathways of opportunity for you to make programmatic decisions that impact your child’s education and builds on your personal empowerment, confidence, and social mobility.

This school year, I challenge you to invest more time in your child’s education. The Office of Head Start defines School Readiness as “children are ready for school, families are ready to support their children’s learning ,and schools are ready for children.”

Parents: Together with the AVANCE EHS/HS program staff, we can make a significant impact on your child’s overall development. Working side by side, we will provide every child enrolled in the program a “Head Start” into their future.

LET’S DO IT… TOGETHER!
