Volunteering at AVANCE-Houston creates team-building, family bonding experiences

The last week of summer vacation 2023 was the ideal time for local volunteers to donate their time and make a difference in the lives of AVANCE-Houston’s children and families.

Former Board member Evelyn Bean and her two sons, Kingston and Ronald, worked alongside AVANCE-Houston staff and completed the unloading, unboxing, and organizing of 2,500 stuffed bears that the Good+ Foundation graciously donated.

The following day, former Board member Vanitha Pothuri and her son Rahul engaged in a volunteer opportunity with the Parent-Child Education Program (PCEP). Both completed four hours cutting out the shapes for the PCEP graduation hat that parents assemble for their children as they prepare for graduation.

Days later, a group of passionate individuals from Ambassador Services volunteered 16 hours to help prepare for the upcoming PCEP workshops. Luis Guevara, Carolina Martinez, Amanda Grissom, and Chief of Staff Juan Carlos Quiroga engaged in an opportunity with our programs by cutting out fabrics and preparing more than 50 toy kits for the parents to assemble as part of the PCEP 1-hour toy-making session.

These individuals not only learned about the concept behind our programs, the toys, and how the interaction between parents and children creates stronger family connections, but they used this time to bond and create a wonderful team-building experience.

We welcome and thank all volunteers for their vital help in improving the community’s well-being.
