Luz Flores Recognized by Houston Woman Magazine as One of Houston’s Most Influential Women

AVANCE-Houston is proud to celebrate our Executive Director, Luz Flores, who was honored last night as one of Houston’s 50 Most Influential Women of 2025 by Houston Woman Magazine.

The inspiring event took place at the Junior League of Houston, where 50 remarkable women were recognized for their leadership, impact, and dedication to strengthening the Houston community. The evening was further distinguished by the presence of Houston’s Mayor, John Whitmire, along with colleagues, friends, and family members who gathered to honor the accomplished women shaping Houston’s future.

As Executive Director of AVANCE-Houston, Flores leads a transformative two-generation model designed to support parents and children simultaneously through early education, parent leadership development, and workforce preparation. Under her leadership, AVANCE-Houston serves nearly 9,000 families annually, delivering integrated services that strengthen child development outcomes while positioning parents for long -term academic and economic advancement.

During her tenure, Flores has strategically expanded the organization’s impact by strengthening and scaling cornerstone programs, including Head Start and Early Head Start, the nationally recognized Parent-Child Education Program (PCEP), and Adult Education and Workforce Development initiatives. She has also overseen the growth of the Healthy Relationship Program, which promotes family stability, emotional wellness, communication skills, and parental engagement—key factors linked to educational success and long-term workforce outcomes.

A collaborative and forward-thinking leader, Flores has also cultivated cross sector partnerships that broaden AVANCE-Houston’s reach and align services across systems supporting children and families, including a recent partnership with Houston City College Southeast to launch “AVANCE to College,” a new pathway supporting parents as they pursue higher education and career advancement.

Reflecting on the recognition, Flores shared, “I am deeply honored to be recognized among such an inspiring group of women. This moment reflects the strength of the families we serve and the unwavering commitment of the AVANCE-Houston team. Together, we are building opportunities that create lasting impact for generations to come.”

Flores represents a model of mission-driven leadership focused on sustainable growth, measurable outcomes, and long-term community impact. Her work reinforces a powerful truth: investing in parents strengthens children, stabilizes families, and builds the future workforce.
