WINTER IN WONDERLAND RETREAT

AVANCE-Houston Strong Families, Strong Communities Program offered our Winter Relationship Building Retreat at The Omni Houston Hotel on December 8th and 9th, 2018. In spite of severe weather, the event was a huge success. Seventy Four (74) participants attended a series of interactive workshops such as: communication, conflict resolution, warmth & family harmony, intimacy, among other topics. Throughout the winter in Wonderland Weekend, the participants enjoyed a one-night stay (which included meals), a couple’s game show, and interactive workshops.
During the welcoming, AVANCE’s Board Member, Mary Jane Gomez engaged couples with famous marriage quotes, prompting the importance of healthy relationships within the family. The 2-day retreat concluded with a renewal of vows ceremony with snow flurries in the background to highlight the winter in Wonderland Relationship Building Retreat.

THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING THE BOARD HOLIDAY CELEBRATION

Our annual Board Holiday celebration was held on December 12, 2018 at the Americas River Oaks restaurant. Thank you to all board members and guests who attended. Special thanks to Congresswoman-elect Sylvia Garcia and Olga Rodriguez for joining us to help celebrate the holiday season.

As a thank you to the AVANCE Board of Directors, the Parent-Child Education Program (PCEP) participants created a holiday artwork for each board member. The theme for their artwork was: If hugs were leaves I would give you a tree and thank you for helping us grow. Thank you to the PCEP families for taking time to create their heartwarming and creative artwork. Board members loved it!

ANGEL TREE

This year we are thankful for everyone that donated to the Angel Tree Project. 250 children from 170 families will have presents under the Tree this holiday season thanks to the generosity of AVANCE- Houston staff members, board members, Comcast, The Houston Fire Department, and FC Painting LLC. We would especially like to thank board members; Laura Hannusch, Pooja Amin, Sheila Briones, Mary Jane Gomez, and Surender Talwar for their generous contributions.
