THE FATHER FACTOR—WASHINGTON, DC

On November 29, Luz Flores and Washington Jackson, Interim Sr. Director of Strategic Partnerships, Support Programs & Outcomes Management joined Ascend at the Aspen Institute & the GOOD+ Foundation in Washington, DC for the Father Factor: A Critical Link in Building Strong Families and Communities Conference.  The forum shared ideas, current research and policy opportunities to increase the engagement of fathers with their children and social service organizations.  Additionally, participants explored strategies about the importance of fathers helping children and families achieve their full potential.

Jessica Seinfeld, President and Founder of the GOOD+ Foundation and her husband Jerry Seinfeld, GOOD+ Fatherhood Leadership Council Chair gave the welcoming remarks on “Why a focus on fathers and why now?”   The teams at Aspen Institute and GOOD+ Foundation will be working in the months ahead to compile ideas and information exchanged during the forum. A report will be issued in mid-January that will help create a blueprint for the most pressing next steps and how we change the narrative around fathers.

While in D.C. Luz Flores met with Yasmina Vinci, Executive Director of the National Head Start Association (NHSA), Lisa Stewart, Sr. Director of Strategic Partnerships at NHSA and Laurel Parker West PhD, President, National Programs & Operations of GOOD+ Foundation to discuss a collaboration between NHSA, the GOOD+ Foundation and AVANCE for April in San Antonio. More information will follow shortly.
