AVANCE-Houston’s 9th Annual Golf Tournament: A Day of Community, Competition, and Impact

Held on November 6, 2025, at Tour 18 Golf Club, AVANCE-Houston’s 9th Annual Golf Tournament brought together 88 players for a day filled with energy, generosity, and community engagement. This year’s event was one of the organization’s most memorable yet, and AVANCE-Houston is truly grateful to everyone who made it a success.

The event was officially kicked off by Dr. Nicolle McZeal Walters, whose inspiring words set the tone for a day of purpose and celebration.

The morning began with great enthusiasm, and the competition did not disappoint. Congratulations to the tournament winners:

• 1st Place: Eloy Saenz and Friends
• 2nd Place: Challenge Office Products
• 3rd Place: Segovia Studios
• Lady longest drive: Shelley Manley
• Lady closest to the pin: Rita Owens
• Longest Drive: David Lange
• Closest to the pin: Gonzalo Alonso

Their skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship made the day unforgettable.
Thanks to the incredible support of sponsors, donors, and partners, the tournament raised $52,000 to sustain AVANCE-Houston’s key programs, including Parent-Child Education (PCEP) and Adult Education (GED), which empower families in the Houston community.

AVANCE-Houston extends heartfelt thanks to its major sponsors—Challenge Office Products, Merit Financial Advisors, and Palmas Properties—for their outstanding generosity and commitment to brighter futures for local families.

Guests also enjoyed an exciting selection of raffles and live auction experiences, including scenic boat rides, exclusive wine-tasting packages, and more. Their enthusiastic participation made these moments fun, engaging, and impactful.

From the early-morning warm-ups to the final awards, the energy and unity on the course were inspiring. Every swing, every donation, and every shared moment contributed directly to strengthening AVANCE-Houston’s mission.

The organization also recognizes its dedicated volunteers and staff, whose behind-the-scenes work ensured a smooth and joyful experience for all. Their time and effort are deeply appreciated.

A special shoutout goes to the event committee members—District I, Council Member, Joaquin Martinez, Chase, Vice President, Community Manager Melissa Vela, Ambassador Services, Managing Director Carlos Telles, and Elevate Latinas Founder, Dr. Melanie Rodriguez—for helping spread the word and rally support for this year’s tournament. Their outreach and commitment played a vital role in making the event a success.

As Luz Flores, Executive Director of AVANCE-Houston, shared: “This tournament is more than golf—it’s about giving families a chance to thrive.”

AVANCE-Houston thanks everyone who played, volunteered, sponsored, and supported this memorable event. The organization looks forward to welcoming the community again next year for the 10th Annual Golf Tournament—another great day of golf and connection!
