AVANCE-Houston Staff Join Colleagues Nationwide at the 2026 AVANCE 2-Gen Learning Conference

From August 19-21, 2026, AVANCE staff members from across the organization gathered for the AVANCE 2-Generation (2-Gen) Learning Conference, a three-day event focused on professional development, collaboration, and strengthening outcomes for children and families. The conference included a dedicated staff training day followed by two days of learning, connection, and shared growth among AVANCE staff, partners, and invited guests.

Throughout the conference, participants attended workshops and sessions covering a variety of topics, including family engagement, parenting education, early childhood education, home visiting, leadership development, data systems, and best practices from across the AVANCE network. These sessions provided opportunities to exchange ideas, learn from peers, and explore innovative approaches that support the two-generation model.

AVANCE-Houston also contributed to the conference through a presentation by Mental Health Specialist Elizabeth Diaz, who led a session titled “Mindfulness: Porque el café no lo arregla todo.” The session highlighted the importance of mindfulness, resilience, and self-care as tools for supporting personal and professional well-being. Participants were introduced to practical stress-management techniques and wellness tools, including the kalimba, which can be used at work and at home to help reduce stress and anxiety.

Staff returned home with fresh perspectives, new strategies, and a renewed commitment to empowering families and strengthening communities. The conference served as a powerful reminder of the impact that collaboration, learning, and innovation can have in advancing opportunities for parents and children to thrive together.

The conference was also an opportunity for staff to connect with colleagues from other AVANCE chapters, strengthening relationships across the network. Attendees enjoyed a themed evening celebration where creativity, camaraderie, and fun were on full display, creating lasting memories and reinforcing the spirit of the AVANCE family.

We are proud of the AVANCE team members who represented Houston and contributed to the meaningful conversations and shared learning that define the AVANCE network.
