AVANCE-Houston has been awarded $250,000.00 to support its nationally recognized Parent-Child Education Program (PCEP) and Adult Education Services for the 2022-2023 program year from Houston Endowment.
PCEP teaches parents how to become their child’s first teacher and how to ensure that the home is the first classroom. While parents attend parenting sessions, their children attend early childhood education. PCEP includes four components:
- Parent Education
- Socialization through toy making
- Community engagement and advocacy
- Monthly home visits/education
AVANCE programs have changed the lives of more than 130,000 at-risk parents and children in the Houston area. Dedicated to the hardest-to-reach communities, AVANCE-Houston empowers families with the skills and knowledge they need to realize a future full of opportunity and economic prosperity. The holistic family education programs embrace AVANCE’s motto that family engagement is essential to the success of their children, and that “parents are the first teachers, and home is the first classroom.”
Houston Endowment’s contribution to AVANCE Houston Inc. will help Houston’s underserved and under-resourced families gain equitable access to resources and opportunities. “We are proud to recognize organizations driving social justice and racial equity across arts, culture, history, civic engagement, and education.” – Ann Stern, president and CEO, Houston Endowment.
