UNITED WAY GRANTS ENABLED IMPLEMENTATION OF SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES

United Way of Greater Houston, the major funder of our signature Parent-Child Education Program and Adult Education services, awarded AVANCE funds that allowed us to provide two additional services for our preschoolers during Summer 2016.

Learning Inspired Through Kindermusik
Our Parent-Child Education Program at HISD’s Sherman Elementary, and our Early Head Start programs implemented the Kindermusik curriculum into the children’s daily lessons.

The activities helped them develop critical early-learning skills through the use of instruments and irresistibly engaging music-and-movement.

The research-based model is designed to be implemented in the classroom and reinforced at home during fun-learning time.

Provided Summer Transition Enrichment Program (STEP)
We offered this summer camp to 94 parents & children at 2 HISD campuses; Sherman and Coop Elementary. This program helped children get acquainted with the learning environment and classroom setting in order to be prepared for elementary school.

It also provided parents guidance to support their children during their new educational journey.

This was the third consecutive year AVANCE has been awarded funds to provide this program.
