94 Graduates. Generational Transformation in Action

AVANCE-Houston proudly celebrated a historic milestone at its 2026 graduation ceremony, marking the first time multiple programs graduated together in a powerful, unified celebration of achievement.

Held at United Way of Greater Houston, the ceremony honored participants from the Parent-Child Education Program (PCEP), Adult Education (GED), Avanzado Juntos, and AVANCE to College. More than a graduation, the event was a celebration of perseverance, growth, and the life-changing impact of education across generations.

This year, AVANCE-Houston celebrated a total of 94 graduates and children across its programs.

Together, they represent far more than program completion. They represent families choosing a brighter future, parents breaking barriers, students pursuing new possibilities, and communities growing stronger through education.

The ceremony featured inspiring remarks from community leaders, powerful student testimonials, and a keynote address from Sara Montelongo Oyervidez, Public Relations Manager at Valero Energy Corporation.

“When you empower a parent, you transform a child’s future. When you strengthen families across generations, you strengthen entire communities.”

Her message resonated deeply, reflecting the journeys celebrated that evening.

Among those voices was Sara Pacheco, a PCEP parent, who reflected on her experience throughout the nine-month program—recalling the lessons learned, hands-on activities, and even the toys she created to support her child’s development. Her words captured the joy and growth that come from learning alongside her child.

Sandra Cruz, a GED graduate, shared her powerful story of perseverance, describing the challenges she faced in earning her high school diploma. She expressed gratitude for finding AVANCE-Houston and credited the program with helping her achieve her GED—opening the door to better opportunities for herself and her family.

Adding to the significance of the evening, AVANCE to College graduates were presented with certificates from the State of Texas House of Representatives, recognizing their achievements, and presented by the Honorable Christina Morales.

For nearly five decades, AVANCE-Houston has believed that lasting change begins with families. Every graduate who crossed the stage embodies that mission—demonstrating the courage to invest in themselves, determination to overcome challenges, and the hope to create new opportunities for the next generation.

This historic celebration serves as a powerful reminder of AVANCE-Houston’s mission: walking alongside children and families as they pursue opportunity, stability, and lasting success.
