AVANCE-Houston Celebrates First-Ever QCCM Graduation: 26 Women Ready to Transform Child Care in Houston

AVANCE-Houston proudly marked a historic milestone on November 15 with the graduation of 26 women from its inaugural Quality Child Care Matters (QCCM) program. These graduates are not only dedicated mothers and committed learners—they are now future child-care providers equipped to deliver high-quality care and strengthen Houston’s communities.

Over the course of 9 intensive months, participants mastered the skills needed to open and operate their own child-care businesses confidently. The graduation ceremony was an emotional celebration of perseverance and empowerment, as graduates shared heartfelt reflections on their transformative journey. Their words moved families, staff, and guests to tears, painting a vivid picture of resilience and hope.

A recurring theme throughout the event was deep gratitude for Aura Larez, QCCM Instructor, whose unwavering dedication and compassion shaped the program’s success.

“Seeing these women believe in themselves and their dreams is the greatest reward,” said Larez. “They are ready to make a lasting impact on Houston’s children and families.”

Among the graduates was Jennifer Quinteros, a proud member of AVANCE-Houston’s Alumni Ambassadors (AHAA) initiative. Jennifer, who has participated in multiple AVANCE programs, shared:

“The program created a great impact on all our lives; we have created a family. Now, I want to go big—all I desire is to help our community. I’m so grateful to AVANCE—this is just the beginning of my journey.”

Her words captured the spirit of the day: empowerment, community, and the belief that this milestone is only the beginning.

Luz Flores, Executive Director of AVANCE-Houston, emphasized the broader impact of this achievement: “This graduation symbolizes more than a certificate—it represents a pathway toward economic mobility and community advancement. These women are establishing businesses that will provide high-quality, nurturing care while strengthening Houston’s workforce. We are proud to stand alongside them as they take this important step.”

The celebration was attended by families, staff, and community leaders, including Rondalyn Davis, Sr. Director II of PCEP, Healthy Relationships & United Way Programs, who oversees QCCM and provided strategic leadership throughout the program. Also present was Advisory Board Chair, Dr. Nicole McZeal Walters, whose support underscores AVANCE-Houston’s commitment to empowering families and elevating early childhood education.

AVANCE-Houston congratulates the QCCM Class of 2025. These 26 graduates represent a new wave of child-care leaders who will provide safe, nurturing environments for Houston’s youngest learners.
