The Houston Astros CAREavan visited AVANCE and Southwest Schools Mangum Education Center on Wednesday February 8th.
Nearly 200 students and staff enjoyed the company of Brian Bogusevic, Jason Bourgeous, J.D. Martinez, Astro alumni and Hall of Famer Jose Cruz, who now is part of the Astros management staff along with the team’s manager Brad Mills, who was also in attendance.
The stars spoke to the children about their journey to Major League Baseball and encouraged the students to stay in school and follow their dreams. “Work hard, make good choices and practice.. practice.. practice.. whatever your passion is, ” said Mills.
The team’s mascot, Junction Jack had everyone laughing throughout the entire event, the children were able to ask the players questions, take photos with them and also get their autographs.
The Houston Astros 2012 CAREavan hit the road on Wednesday, February 1, with visits throughout central and south Texas, a trip to Oklahoma City, Okla. and five days in Houston making stops throughout the community.
More than 30 Astros players, alumni, coaches and front office staff are taking part in the 2012 CAREavan.
