April is an exciting time at AVANCE-Houston. During the week of April 24 – 28, the agency will be celebrating the Week of the Young Child 2017. The event is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and celebrates early learning, young children, their families, and teachers.

During the Week of the Young Child 2017, children will participate in a week of fun and festivities. Each day, there will be a new theme, introducing young learners to a world of music, food, community, and visits from the Houston Fire Department, ABC Dental, and Houston Police Department among others.

The week kicks off with Music Monday, allowing children to develop math, language, and literacy skills through music. On Tasty Tuesday, young children are treated to a food-themed day of fun while they cook together and learn about nutrition and creating life-long fitness habits.

On Work Together Wednesday, children will build math and science skills as they are encouraged to use any building material to create one-of-a-kind structures. Thursday is Artsy Thursday and aims to help young children develop their creativity, social skills, and fine-motor skills. The special week will close with Family Friday, celebrating the family members’ role in being a child’s very first teachers.
