José Villarreal

Jose has worked in the non - profit sector for over 30 years. He has extensive experience as a senior executive in the public sector including higher education and public transit.
He currently serves on the United Way Board of Directors and has served on many non-profit boards such as Career Recovery and Resources, Gulf Coast Workforce Board, American Leadership Forum, San Jacinto Council of Girl Scouts and others; he chaired the Minority Affairs Committee of the American Public Transportation Association and Gulf Coast Economic Report Card.
He has participated in the American Leadership Forum and the inaugural class of Leadership Houston. He was recognized for distinguished service by the Mexican Institute of Greater Houston and SER – Jobs for Progress. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Texas at Arlington and earned his Master’s in Social Planning from Boston College. He joined AVANCE as executive Director in 2006.
