2017 Healthy Marriage Winter Retreat: I Still do…Life, Love, and Prosperity

The Healthy Marriage: Strong Families, Strong Communities hosted their second marriage retreat of the year at the Sheraton Brokhollow Hotel. The two-day retreat brought together nearly 40 couples. These couples participated in sessions of interactive workshops to learn how to resolve conflict, communicate effectively, to identify issues and hidden issues as well as to have fun and to embrace their individual personality in their relationship.

The retreat hoped to provide couples with the tools they need to create and maintain healthy families and relationships.

During the event, Executive Director Luz Flores welcomed participants, presented an overview of the agency, and introduced Board Vice-Chair Dan Arguijo, who spoke of the pleasure which he had in meeting the couples and commended each one of them for attending the retreat.

“This is a great program; the objective of this retreat is to give you an opportunity to reconnect with each other, to renew your relationship and to improve your communication,” he said. “…Marriage is not easy, but as the New Year approaches make it your goal to work on your relationship each and every day.”

Sr. Director of Strategic Partnerships, Support Programs, and Outcomes Management Nilia Jiménez, said, “This retreat was very successful. Couples enthusiastically participated in activities that were both one-on-one and with the group. Additionally, participants’ comments indicated that couples were learning new ways of improving their relationships and were looking forward to incorporating what they had learned in the future.”

Couples were treated to one-night hotel stay, meals and many won fabulous door prizes.

The retreat was fully funded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families.
